Rene Guenon
Of particular interest is his concept of “solidification of the world”, analogous to Oswald Spengler’s belief that the eye “hardens the light world” for the purposes of will to power and analysis. The deeper knowledge, let alone wisdom, eludes those for whom materiality (in a narrow, empirical sense) constitute the entire modality of what it means to be embodied (human) or to exist at all. Derided as a spiritual fascist by the usual suspects, Guenon understood the inner trend (insofar as it could have one) of “progress”. This is not to belittle Science or deride invention, but merely to seek to place it within a subordinate context of the Good.
